The Burquitlam neighbourhood of Coquitlam is undergoing dramatic changes. The evergreen skytrain line is now connecting the tri-cities area to the urban region and development along this corridor is following suit. The city of Coquitlam has retained VDZ assoc. to re-imagine Cottonwood park - a 4 acre urban park that is slated to grow to 9+ acres through land acquisition over the next 10 years.
VDZ is working through schematic concepts for council endorsement and will be going through an iterative design process this Summer and Fall. Phase one construction is lated for Spring 2018 with new park amenities building, water park, urban 'lounge' seating, youth play zone, picnic space, expanded parking, and new ball fields.
VDZ continues it's strong relationship with PCI developments of Vancouver with an iconic office low rise development along hwy 1. The project will be a new head office for First West Credit Union and will build upon PCI's success with other banking head office developments such as Coast Capital Savings Tower in city centre. Work begins now - with development permit submissions slated for this summer.
VDZ has been retained by the City of Coquitlam to renovate and reconfigure the sportsfield complex at Mackin Park. VDZ was the prime consultant for the redesign and implementation of the Parc au Mackin in 2012 and is honoured to continue working with the city to complete the active recreation renovation for the park. Work has already begun and construction initiation is Summer 2018.
VDZ has been nominated by the Surrey Board of Trade for the Annual 'Innovation Awards'. VDZ's work on sustainable and alternative stormwater planning and design has been recognized as innovative and influential in shaping the direction of new site planning in city centre of Surrey. VDZ has worked with the engineering department to create a new stormwater calculator for evaluating new development proposals for alternatives to more traditional stormwater detention models.
VDZ+A has been retained byt he Vancouver Parks board to continue design development on the Sunset Park community centre/park site in East Vancouver. THis large, urban park is home to the parks board nursery production area, Sunset Community Centre, Ice Rink, Dog Park, and acreas of open green space for community events. Sunset park has been part of the East side phsyche for generations. VDZ+A will partner with Parks board staff to refine existing concepts, develop technical details, and oversee construction of this multi-phase public park. Work has only just begun, with phase one construction anticipated in Spring, 2017.
