The competitive tender has closed for the Town Centre Artificial Turf Field. The successful contractor is Wilco westcoast civil contractors. Wilco has a wealth of experience in the construction of artificial and sand turf sportsfield venues. VDZ+A will supervise mobilization during the first week of June. Construction will continue through summer with a Fall target for opening. Check back for more information on this exciting improvement for the city of Coquitlam.
The Canada Games Plaza at the Prince George Civic Centre is out for tender. Construction on this downtown public space renovation will begin in June with ongoing improvements through summer and into Fall. This space will be the focal point for the Canada Winter Games in February 2015 and will become a community celebration space as part of the Games Legacy in Prince George. VDZ+A is pleased to team with the LARK group in winning the Government of Canada competition for the redevelopment of the Aldergrove port of Entry with the USA. A strong design team, lead by Radius architects, and Lark Projects with support a talented group of engineering consultants and our team, produced a winning submission for the design and construction of a dramatically expanded border crossing complex. Additional lanes, new port building, inspection bay, and improved staff infrastructure will be part of the development plans. Design work continues this month with refinements to our winning submission and construction later this year.
VDZ+A teamed with construction partner WILCO westcoast contractors, has been awarded the design and construction for the new artificial turf sportsfield development at Minoru Park, Richmond, BC. The project calls for new artificial soccer, baseball, and practise facility. Other program elements include expanded parking, tennis courts, enhanced lighting, walkways, and improved stormwater infrastructure. Work has already begun, with an ambitious schedule for construction.
The City of Arlington, Texas has a brand new skatepark facility in one of its premier parks. As part of a city-wide planning initiative led by VDZ+associates in 2011-2012, a number of sites around the city were chosen for skatepark development. Vandergriff park represents the first, community-scale facility designed and constructed as part of the city-wide plan. The park includes an expansive street and bowl section with plenty of viewing space for parents and families. The skatepark itself is integrated into an existing greenspace with trees, and other recreation amenities. The grand opening is slated for April 5th, 2014. Congratulations to the city and the 'wheeled sport enthusiasts' of the Dallas, Fort-worth Metroplex!
