Client: City of White Rock
Location: White Rock, BC
Project Completed: 2005
CSLA National Award Winner 2004
The City of White Rock waterfront is one of the main waterfront destinations for residents in BC. In 2003, VDZ+A was approached to design an extension of the waterfront that would:
1) Create an exciting and fully accessible plaza space for panoramic views of the Georgia Strait and Semiahmoo areas
2) Create additional parking capacity at the beach and relieve congestion further West along Marine Drive, and
3) Unify both spaces with a developed promenade that connects to the existing trail systems
Due to the environmental and public interest of this site, a highly televised public hearing process occurred over the course of several open houses and meetings. The VDZ+A consultant team included wildlife biologists, environmental consultants, geotechnical consultants, architects, and civil engineers.
The final design implemented a number of phased environmental strategies for eradication of invasive species and preservation of foreshore habitat.
