Grandview Park

Grandview park was a renovation of Vancouver’s busiest park with over 1.3 million independent visits every year. The decision to renovate this beloved space required a long process of public engagement by the Vancouver Park Board. VDZ+A was retained to take an initial concept through concept refinement, technical design and construction. Many of the park’s key iconic features were readapted and relocated into a new master plan which better addressed the public needs of site lines, safety, and accessibility.

Construction of this project included:
• A new plaza to serve the existing cenotaph including memorial services for Remembrance Day events and contemplative gatherings
• North America’s first bike polo specific court to better serve the many matches held at this park location
• A stage area for community events and concerts
• An amenities building, inclusive of a green wall and park service office
• New looping and meandering walking trails to connect all spaces
• New playgrounds and a splash pad focused on key age groups (toddlers through adolescents) that incorporate playscape elements for promotion of connectivity with nature
• Upgrades to site servicing and storm water management
