The City of Surrey is one of Canada’s fastest growing communities. As part of the rejuvenation of the city centre neighbourhood an existing public park - Holland Park (29 acres) was slated for a major renovation to become a new urban landmark. VDZ+A was retained to engage the public in a Master Planning exercise to consider alternative visions for the future of City Centre and for Holland Park in particular.
Detailed planning resulted in the construction of Surrey’s first Urban park. This park accommodates arboriculture, history, and social spaces as the primary design elements.
This ambitious project includes an improved amphitheatre at Rose Holly fountain with accommodation for up to 2500 people, a facilities building that includes meeting space, bathrooms, and storage, as well as community entry ways to the park that display both temporary and permanent artwork. Both the Fusion Festival and Surrey Olympic Events found their home to Holland Park after its successful renovation.
